Everyone’s favourite love story is back on our screens this Sunday, once again following three bachelors on their search for the one. But the drama-filled rose ceremonies and action-packed dates weren’t the only things keeping their heart rates up this season.
Dubbed the ‘most romantic season yet’, Australian viewers have been waiting with bated breath to watch three new love stories unfold on screen. But with triple the suitors, comes triple the drama, action and jaw-dropping dates.
So, how did this year’s Bachelors find time to look after their bodies amidst the madness? Well, according to the marketing manager (and theologist in training), international model and NRL player-turned-lumberjack, keeping mentally and physically fit was essential throughout the emotionally gruelling experience.
With limited downtime during filming, the country’s most eligible blokes took advantage of their time off between rose ceremonies, group dates and cocktail parties, finding innovative ways to practice self-care, work up a sweat, and catch up on some well-deserved rest.
Luke Bateman, Wesley Senna Cortes and Ben Waddell join Body+Soul to share how they kept fit during filming.

Outside of the mansion, how do you usually stay fit and practice self-care?
“I highly value a healthy diet and lifestyle as I believe it’s one of the key pillars of a fulfilling life. I work in an active job so it keeps me fairly fit. I also have a little home gym set up and work out of an afternoon if I still have the energy post work. The home gym consists of a few dumbbells, a bench and a barbell. As we’re extremely remote I rely a lot on body weight exercises, tyres and also throw a sledgehammer into the mix.”
How do you stay fit throughout filming?
“Fortunately, I’m an early riser so I’d usually go out for a morning walk and try to sneak in a quick workout before the day started. The workout was at a gym close to my Bach pad. Morning workouts were focused on getting my body moving and feeling good for the day: Kettlebells, free weights, bodyweight exercises, and stretching. Nothing too strenuous or complex as they were big days of filming.”
What is your dream fitspo date?
“I have never really considered incorporating fitness into a date, but I’d probably just enjoy a walk or climb with a spectacular view waiting at the end.”

Outside of the mansion, how do you usually stay fit and practice self-care?
“I know it comes down to consistency in exercise and eating habits, so I usually try to mix between workouts at the gym, three to five times a week, and outdoor running. I didn’t use to like gyms, they felt a bit daunting, but I grew an appreciation for it and now I just put a podcast on and get in ‘my zone’. I also recently joined a running club, The 440 in Bronte, although 4 AM. wake-up calls on a Saturday are still a huge battle, especially for a Latino (we love our late-night hangouts).
When it comes to eating, I do not count calories, I think it takes away the pleasure of food for me, so I just try to eat relatively healthy 80% of the time. You gotta sneak in a Nutella croissant now and then. Other self-care practices I do are morning prayer, therapy, and readings on philosophy and psychology.”
How do you stay fit throughout filming?
“I tried to do some stretches and a quick circuit in my bedroom every day before getting out in the morning. Then I would do a protein shake and get ready for the day. Production was kind to get us gym memberships too, but our schedules were quite packed, so I was only able to go to the gym once or twice a week. Almost all the food provided was healthy, so eating well was quite easy.”
What is your dream fitspo date?
“I like doing activities together, they feel less ‘interviewy’. A hike through a national park or coastal walk is always a win, maybe leading to a sunset view or even a swim. I also love doing something that only one or none of us are great at because it usually sparks that self-deprecation banter and it is an opportunity to show some vulnerability too.”

Outside of the mansion, how do you usually stay fit and practice self-care?
“I’m in the gym five days a week and get on my road bike when I can and the weather is nice. I’m lucky to be living in the Dandenongs at the moment, so there’s an abundance of beautiful countryside to enjoy. I meditate every day anywhere from 5 to 20mins as it is important to slow down and switch off sometimes. I drink plenty of water too and we have tank water which I think is the most delicious.”
How do you stay fit throughout filming?
“We would have Sundays off so I would go to the gym then, but we were on our feet a lot and doing a lot of fun dates, so we stayed pretty active throughout filming.”

What is your dream fitspo date?
“A hike in the mountains in either Norway or Switzerland. They’re two of my favourite countries. I love the water and love mountains so seeing the two of them together always blows my mind and being able to share that with someone is very special.”
