The most common mistakes people make each January
#1. Goals that are too broad
Everyone has different methods for their madness, but a common thread, Zocchi tells Body+Soul, is when people “don’t really set a specific goal so they don’t have a clear direction on what they are trying to achieve.”
“This has a knock-on effect because they don’t plan properly and put in the correct structure to achieve their goals.”
The result? Not fulfilling your goals due to overwhelm, or feeling unsure about what success actually looks like. It’s important to know what you’re trying to achieve, so you can measure your success, and reward yourself for progress.
How to avoid it
“Have a clear goal of what you are trying to achieve and then break that goal into smaller goals,” says Zocchi. “Have a structure to work towards and a way to measure your progress – The more times you can check in with yourself the better!”
He also urges people to take stock of the small wins – which go a long way to adding up to larger achievements.
“Adding breathwork into workouts, more meditation, incorporating better sleep practices or adding functional movements into your exercises all add up and make a difference,” he says.
